"The story of Andriy from Pszczyna (Poland, Silesian Province) – how a well-written CV and an "All Stars" profile helped me find a job.

Description

Initial situation:

Andriy (in Poland for 2 years) had not worked for 4 months. He did not register as unemployed because he was convinced that with his skills and active job search, finding a new job would be a matter of days or weeks. This way of thinking was also encouraged by his place of residence, located between two large urban centres with a large number of businesses. However, Andriy sent his applications to companies without success. His CV was chaotic, and he did not have an account on any professional portal. He used a private email address called "andriy.parties123@...".
A friend sent him a link to a free training course entitled "Job offers on social media".
Participating in the training course was a turning point in Andriy's professional life.

Solutions applied (based on the training):

- Improving his CV:

  • Andriy treated his CV as a personal advertising "brochure".
  • He changed his email address to a professional one containing his first and last name.
  • He divided the document into clear sections: personal details, education, experience and skills.
  • In the section on gaps in employment (more than 3 months), he described the courses and studies he had completed during that time, showing that he had used the time productively.

- Social media activity:

  • He created an account on LinkedIn.
  • He uploaded a professional profile photo.
  • He completed his profile by adding his current position, two previous jobs, education and skills.
  • By completing his profile, he achieved "All Stars" status, which, according to statistics, gave him 40 times more chances of being noticed by recruiters.
  • On Facebook, he joined groups related to his industry to follow job postings.

Result:

Thanks to his "All Stars" status on LinkedIn, Andriy's profile was displayed to a recruiter working for an employer from the Katowice Special Economic Zone in Tychy, who requested his CV. The recruiter appreciated not only Andriy's skills, but also his professionally prepared CV without any errors, and invited Andrija for an interview.

Think about it...
Q: Do you see any similarities to your situation? Write down what they are.
Q: Which of Andriy's actions can you apply to your situation?

Summary

Key takeaways:

  • Your CV is your advertisement: It must be concise, honest and tailored to each specific job offer.
  • Online image: Employers check candidates online – avoid content that could harm you and maintain a professional image.
  • The role of social media: LinkedIn is for building a professional network, while Facebook is a good place to look for local job offers in groups.
  • All Stars profile: Treat LinkedIn as your online CV. Complete all sections (photo, experience, skills) to significantly increase your chances of getting an offer.
